5th Grade Band

What Happens in 5th Grade Band???

During the 5th grade band rotation, students are able to play one of the three instruments that we offer for 5th graders. At the beginning of the rotation, we spend time helping each student choose the instrument that they can be the most successful on!

After students have been placed on an instrument, you will have an opportunity to rent an instrument from Brook Mays Music Company. They come to the MIS/HPMS cafeteria to make the process as convenient as possible. At the end of the 9 week rotation, a representative from Brook Mays will return to the school to collect the instruments, saving you a trip to the store!

We spend the 9 weeks learning the fundamentals of playing the instrument, playing fun music, and learning all about band! During the spring semester, we will host two “Meet the Instruments Nights” in the Highland Park Middle School Cafeteria. This night provides every 5th grader with an opportunity to try out all of the instruments that we have in our 6th grade band.  If a student would like to have the opportunity to play an instrument other than the one they play during their 5th grade rotation, the must attend one of these events.

We ENCOURAGE ALL 5th grade parents and students to attend on of the the “Meet the Instruments Nights” that are held during the spring semester! You will have the opportunity to see your child work 1:1 with an experienced band director on any of the instruments they would like to try!  Detailed information regarding these events will be sent out during the spring semester.  We hope to see you all there!

Quarter 3:    Instrument Selection & Rental        January 14th          4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Quarter 4:     Instrument Selection & Rental      April 1st                   4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
